On the way back a gaggle of vultures perched near two carcasses, with three feral dogs between them, guarding them off. This was a problem. In the past the villagers had beat the dogs and suggested poisoning them– unacceptable to Manoj. He chased them off, knowing they’d return. When protecting nature, there are rarely simple solutions. Fences weren’t an option, since when the vultures are full from eating they are clumsy flyers and would entangle themselves. It’s odd to see these huge majestic soaring birds tumble off branches, too full to land gracefully.
